About the Job

WCNY, Central New York’s own member-supported public broadcasting station, is an exciting, cutting-edge multimedia company leveraging TV, radio, social media and print. WCNY reaches 19 counties and nearly 1.8 million people with content that inspires, educates, and entertains.

Here’s a rare opportunity for a gifted journalist to produce exceptional radio, TV, and digital content - all from a small studio in the heart of the Capitol Building in Albany. If you are known for your journalistic acumen and ability to sleuth out the inside-baseball of every situation, and if you are amazingly adept at managing strong personalities, continual change, evolving technologies, and impossible deadlines in the quest to shine the light on truth, then this may be the plum career move you have hoped to find.

WCNY Public Media seeks an experienced and talented producer to manage operations for our Capitol Bureau. Working with WCNY’s Director of News and Public Affairs, you will produce The Capitol Pressroom, the award-winning daily news and public affairs program carried by public broadcasting affiliates statewide; coordinate client TV production services; and work with WCNY’s Syracuse production team on TV content ranging from series and specials to political debates.

You have what it takes if you are able to:
Research and present outstanding, timely subject ideas.
Get the interview, from initial contact through technical arrangements, scheduling, and hand-holding as needed.
Create high-quality program production, edit content, troubleshoot issues, and get the show to air on time, every time.
Manage customer relations, including affiliate stations and studio services clients.
Write, produce, and publish related content for the program including daily program previews and promotion through WCNY’s website and social media.
Keep everything organized, maintain logs and prepare reports - putting out fires and McGuyvering when necessary.
Remain collegial under stress, work well with others and handle adversity and tight deadlines with aplomb.

The minimum credentials and experience requirements include:
College degree in Journalism, Political Science, Electronic Media Communications, Television/ Radio or related field.
Two to three years of experience in developing television and radio content.
Demonstrated content production experience, including non-linear based content editing skills, use of Adobe Premier, Adobe Audition.
Knowledgeable of broadcast rules and regulations.

In a time rife with fake news, you will be working for a company that holds the highest standards for journalistic integrity. We seek only those candidates who will treasure the opportunity to bring light to the often complex issues in New York State, presenting differing points of view with unbiased respect. If this shoe fits, we encourage you to apply.
